Hepatitis C is a contagious liver disease spread through contact with the blood of a person who has the virus. The disease progresses slowly, often showing no symptoms. That's why many of the 2.4 million Americans who have the disease don't even know it. And many don't know that it can be cured.
Cure means the hepatitis C virus is not detected in the blood when measured three months after treatment is completed.
Your Hepatitis C Specialist can determine a fibrosis score (F0 - F4) by blood test, ultrasound, or liver biopsy. Scores from these tests estimate the amount of scarring in the liver. The greater the fibrosis score, the more likely you are to have severe liver damage.
